Palisade Junior, Gavin Parker, is this week’s Male Athlete of the Week brought to you by Palisade Dino Mart. A dedicated member of the Palisade varsity track and field team, Parker competes in the shot put and discus events. In addition to athletics, Parker is also deeply involved in the arts, performing with the Palisade marching band in the fall and participating in drum corps over the summer. He has competed in track and field throughout all three years of high school, earning a spot on the varsity team each season. Parker shared, “I was inspired to do track and field because a lot of my family threw in their high school careers, so I figured I would try it.”
The head coach for the Palisade Varsity Throw team, Coach Stone, is a witness to Parker’s athletic improvement and hard work ethic. He is very appreciative of the leader that he is and his dedication.
“Gavin is an exceptional young man whose drive and determination set him apart. A talented multi-instrumentalist, Gavin balances his passion for music with his outstanding achievement in athletics– currently ranking among the top in the state for both shot put and discus. As his coach, I am incredibly proud of the enthusiasm and resilience he brings to everything he does. Gavin is not only a dedicated athlete, but also a committed IB student, excelling in both academics and extracurriculars. He wears many hats and wears them well. With his relentless work ethic and positive attitude, there is no doubt that Gavin will continue to surpass expectations and accomplish any goal he sets his mind to.”
Track and field is a sport Parker hopes to continue in college, and possibly beyond. His passion for throwing is fueled by the people who inspire him to grow in what he loves.Parker shares, “My biggest inspiration is Ryan Crouser, an Olympic gold medalist in shot put. His dedication to the sport is absolutely inspiring, and he is very humble and down to earth.”
That same dedication shows in Parker’s own journey, where he finds motivation not just in personal improvement, but in the progress of those around him. “My favorite thing is watching mine and my teammates’ throws grow progressively.”
With his drive, humility, and team-first mentality, Parker continues to make a lasting impact on Palisade’s track and field program. His growth and dedication promise a bright future, both on and off the field. Congratulations, Gavin Parker, for receiving Athlete of the Week!
