With their perseverance and having maintained a comfortable lead throughout, the Palisade Girls Basketball varsity team showcased their dominance with convincing wins in the Roaring Fork Tournament over the past weekend from December 5th through the 7th. Compared to last year, there is already much improvement, as can be seen from the resulting scores in the Roaring Fork Tournament.
Palisade Junior Lyla Lancaster has been playing basketball since second grade. She is a varsity starter where she plays almost every position. “We have put in a lot of new sets and plays, so I think this tournament is more of experimenting with what we have been practicing.”
Palisade Senior Sedona Zoobi has been playing basketball for two years of her high school career where she plays center. “I think we played really hard. In the first two games we won by a lot.” In their first game, the Bulldogs took a huge win against the Rifle Bears with a score of 60-16, followed by another win against the Grand Valley Cardinals with a score of 60-12. In their third and last game, the girls lost a close fight to Roaring Fork with a score of 59-61.
“In the third game we were really tired and we kind of let it get away from us,” said Zoobi. “This is one of our easier tournaments, mainly because of our competition. However, it was also hard because we were implementing our plays and these are our first games of the season. This tournament was good for us as we played against the other teams that we went up against. The wins are good, but the losses are also good to push us and to motivate us to keep playing harder, as well as to help us understand why we lost.”
With an update on their previous game, the girls played Frederick on December the 12th, where they took a tough loss 27-45. The Palisade Girls varsity team is now at a record of 2-2. The wins give the team confidence in their skills and faith in each other, but the losses give them motivation to come back stronger. Good job to our Bulldog ladies on great wins in the Roaring Fork Tournament, and best of luck as they move forward as a team, ready to dominate with everything they have got!
