This week, one of Palisade’s most valued traditions is the infamous Ruff N Tuff volleyball games which took place in the main gym October 2nd and 3rd. Being one of the hallmarks of Homecoming week, this event consists of boys playing volleyball, which results in a series of cutthroat games that are aggressive and entertaining.
The electric atmosphere set the tone for the first game, which had the Seniors playing the Freshmen. Signs lined the bleachers with messages of encouragement to each team. Even though early on in the game the Freshmen managed to keep a close score, the Seniors quickly got ahead and won in two sets, marking a win for their team.
Soon after the first game, the Juniors played the Sophomores. This heated match consisted of three sets, in which both teams put up a tough fight. After many spikes, blocks, and impressive serves, the Sophomores ended up winning the game.
Next after this game, the fight for third place between the Juniors and Freshmen was on. For a significant part of the first set, the Freshman were able to keep up with the Juniors, but the Juniors were able to make a decisive victory, placing third in the bracket.
The moment of truth arrived as the Sophomores played the Seniors, resulting in high tensions throughout the game and in the crowds of students cheering for their team. After two sets and lots of calculated plays, this game ended up with the Seniors winning, officially making them the champions of the Ruff N Tuff bracket.
Finally, one of the most anticipated games of the year, the teachers vs the Seniors finally started. This close game built up suspense in both teams and spectators alike, resulting in a nail biting game. The first set, the Seniors won by three points, with the final score being 12 to 15. Determined by their narrow loss, the teachers put up a hard fight to the Seniors but narrowly lost with a close score of 13 to 15. Coming out victorious, the Seniors celebrated their hard earned victory. Junior Cy Hobbs, who played in the Ruff N Tuff games remarked, “We played kinda well, but we could have played better. It was fun to watch the Seniors beat the teachers. Shout out to Coach Riley because she was the best.”
