World Baseball Classic
The World Baseball Classic is an international baseball tournament that brings together teams from around the world to compete for the title of world champion. The tournament is organized by the International Baseball Federation and is held every four years. The first World Baseball Classic was held in 2006, and it has since become one of the most prestigious international baseball events. The tournament features 16 teams from around the world, including teams from North and South America, Asia, Europe, and Oceania. The format of the tournament consists of a round-robin group stage followed by a single-elimination knockout stage. The group stage is divided into four pools, each containing four teams. The top two teams from each pool advance to the knockout stage, where they compete in a series of elimination games until a champion is crowned. The 2023 World Baseball Classic has changed, that is, four new teams will be added and a total of 20 national teams will participate in the competition. In the 2023 classic, the MLB urged stars to participate. The United States beat Venezuela, to face Cuba in the semifinals, and Cuba is also another notorious opponent of the United States in world-stage politics. Baseball is the most popular sport in Cuba and is played at a very high level. Therefore the stakes of the said encounter were high. After beating Cuba in the semifinals by a wide margin, the United States faced another giant rival, Japan, in the final. The final was so popular that more than 54 million Japanese people watched it. At the end of the ninth inning, Mike Trout, the 21st century’s top superstar hitter, faced two-way player Shohei Ohtani as a pitcher. MLB International caster commented on the production, calling it The World Baseball won tonight. Eventually, Shohei Ohtani won the historic classic rival match by striking out Mike Trout. Other notable moments from the tournament include the 2017 championship game, in which the United States defeated Puerto Rico to win their first WBC title. When asked by student Alan Lopez what he thought about the Baseball Classic he said “ Going into the games I thought that Mexico was not going to do that good but they were my favorite team. The game that I thought was going to have a different outcome was Mexico vs Japan, Mexico had the lead for a while and then Japan managed to take it home with a win of 3-2. My favorite game was Mexico vs Puerto Rico because everyone thought we were going to get knocked out and we won the game. Mexico is the team that shocked me the most and the team that shocked me the most was Japan”. The World Baseball Classic has also been praised for its ability to bring together players from different backgrounds and cultures, as well as its potential to promote the sport of baseball on a global scale. The World Baseball Classic is a prestigious international baseball tournament that brings together teams from around the world to compete for the title of world champion.
