As of last week, President Trump has extended the deadline of the well-known social media app, TikTok, until December 16th. According to Fox News, on September 15th, President Donald Trump and Chinese Premier Xi Jinping reached a framework deal for the ownership of the platform, and are meeting on Friday, September 19th, to perhaps finalize the deal. Sophomore Irelyn Kinslow shares her opinions on what would happen if TikTok got banned. “I feel like it affects a lot of people, but I don’t see it affecting me much personally.” TikTok has become a huge addiction for teenagers. They spend hours scrolling, watching videos that are both funny and educational. There are both good and bad aspects to the app, and adults share that one of the worst parts about it is that people spend an entire day watching nonsense and filling their brains with misinformation.
According to the News website “The Guardian”, President Trump is expected to sign an order deal this week that will create a structure for a group of investors to take over operations of the Chinese social media company in the US. The US has a business software company called Oracle that would license a copy of TikTok’s recommendation algorithm as a part of the deal. People in the US have reacted with a mix of emotions, including those who use the app for business and have their own personal jobs on the app. Kinslow follows content creators and says that seeing their reviews on different items helps know what buyers are accurate. George Wright, from the BBC Website, writes that President Trump even loves TikTok but wants to have full custody of the app to help ensure what our country has noticed and to give the US control of the algorithm.
