Community is an important aspect of Palisade High School’s culture. Different grades, specifically freshmen, of all strengths and passions are all encouraged to join a newfound community by signing up for a club that interests them. The annual Club Fair provides an opportunity for Palisade students to get involved in their favorite interests or find something new that sparks their curiosity.
On Monday, August 25th, several clubs, ranging from Dungeons and Dragons to Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA), set up informational posters in the lobby to draw attention to their club. Incentives like cookies, bracelets, and stickers were also handed out to allure hesitant students. Bulldogs slowly made their way around in a loop to inspect each club and what they had to offer. Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) and the Rocket Club attracted a lot of kids.
At Palisade, every freshman is required to join a club for the whole school year. Although it may seem like a hassle for some, clubs can be a really great environment to make new friends, further your passions, and familiarize yourself with Palisade’s school culture. Seniors Claire Powell and Hank DeFord established the Climbing Club, hoping to boost the climbing community in the Grand Valley. Powell states, “Hopefully the club will be a strong community for teens to get activity and have fun within the sport.” Powell and DeFord got around 25 sign-ups from mainly freshman and sophomores. Come to Mr. Smith’s room, 214D on September 8th for the Climbing Club’s interest meeting. Thursday, September 11th at 6 p.m. will be the club’s first climb time at Grand Valley Climbing Gym.
Powell concludes, “As a senior, I’m very excited for the possibilities and opportunities we can provide for the freshmen who are as excited as I was!”
Despite the differences in each club’s intentions, each one provides a safe and inclusive community for Bulldogs.
