Boom! Crash! …Axel? These were the sounds and actions that filled River City Sports Complex on December 13th. Over the last few years, StuCo has established a winter tradition called Dogs on Ice, encouraging Palisade Bulldogs and other D51 students to ice skate for a discounted price to spread holiday cheer. Admission was $15, including skate rentals. Experience level doesn’t matter. In fact, Bulldogs were seen supporting their peers by holding hands, waists, and cheering. This allowed a chill and positive atmosphere, attracting a fair amount of attendees.
Junior Gavin Parker used to play hockey. Considering his previous experience of how to navigate the ice, Parker showed off his moves and speed. “I was there with good people and it was fun to hang out. I was really stressed beforehand so it was nice to get on the ice and chill,” Parker admits.
Sophomore Addi Pinnt planned the entire event as the StuCo committee head. “This has been something I’ve wanted to do since freshman year, so I was really excited to organize it. I’ve been ice skating since I was eight and I know the managers of the rink,” explains Pinnt. “I think it went pretty well, especially because it wasn’t during finals week.”
Although it might be hard to participate in school activities as an underclassmen, lots of freshmen and sophomores stunted on the ice. StuCo attempts to conquer possible uncomfortable situations or feelings of exclusion. Dogs on Ice certainly demonstrates their hard work and consideration.
If you fall down, there’s always someone to help you back up! Palisade Bulldogs and their Warrior, Tiger, and Wildcat friends had a blast at Dogs on Ice! Thanks to StuCo for creating such awesome opportunities to connect with others and try new activities. Happy Holidays Bulldogs, catch ya in the new year.
