Every year Palisade Sophomores and Freshmen are required to do NWEA, a standardized test. They test in the fall, spring, and winter to track the growth of students. Some students hate it while others love it, administrators think of it as a great thing for students that benefits them. Students are only one session away from ending NWEA for winter, then they are required to do it again in the spring to demonstrate growth. Freshman Debany Marquez states, “I like NWEA but at the same time I don’t like it because it takes forever. But, also it tracks my growth and improvement. It benefits me because it lets me see areas I need more help in and how much I’ve grown and learned so far in the year.”
Freshman Lily Witt said, “I have a love hate relationship with NWEA. I like it but at the same time I don’t because it takes so long to do and some questions I don’t know. I think NWEA is not as necessary for students, but I also think it benefits the school for a good reason. It benefits students because it demonstrates for us how important our growth is and what we need to improve on. Also, it gives students an opportunity to show what they know and don’t know already to set up their schedule.”
