On November 28th through December 1st, Palisade’s very own student Kaleb McCain made his way to the BMX Grand Nationals, “Race of Champions”, accomplishing fourth place in the final. McCain has been involved with a lot of races and has gotten better with each year. This is McCain’s first year at Palisade High School as he has transferred from Grand River Academy and he has been making the best of it. Racing comes easy to McCain as he just goes out for fun but ends up triumphing over his competitors and making it to the top. McCain comments, “I just ride.” Going to a big race such as the one that McCain has achieved making it to is not always easy demonstrating the raw talent that he has for the sport.
McCain also states, “BMX racing is basically bicycles on a motocross type of track.” McCain is a Junior here at Palisade who has made racing a pillar in his life. “I have been racing for going on ten years now.” Racing for as long as he has comes with some difficulties that he has conquered. “A year ago, I lacerated my liver, bruised two of my ribs, and bruised my right lung along with having a concussion.” McCain mentions that this happened as he was riding and flipped over his bike’s handlebars. McCain has conquered every challenge that has come his way making him a stronger racer, and building strong characteristics. McCain mentions, “My favorite part about racing would have to be the character building about it, forming you as a person and the friendships that come along with it”. Congratulations to Kaleb McCain for all that he has accomplished through BMX racing, and keep doing the things you do.
