Recently, there have been two important events celebrated at Palisade High School, where two effective awareness days have made an impact: Alzheimer’s Awareness Day and American Enterprise Spirit Day. This entails different days that allow students to foster awareness by showing their support for great causes while recognizing values such as empathy and entrepreneurship.
On Alzheimer’s Awareness Day, students supported millions with the disease by wearing the color purple. Amaleigha Laguradia a freshman at Palisade High School commented “Alzheimers awareness means bringing light to the illness that many people have. I believe it is important to spread alzheimer’s awareness so people can better understand what others go through.” The color purple represents the fight against Alzheimer’s and the way of saluting the people who live with it and their families. It brought attention that the day should raise awareness, support research, and show compassion for all affected by this illness. It called on students to reflect on the challenges of Alzheimer’s and to think about ways to support people in their community who may be afflicted. American Enterprise Spirit Day was all about embracing the entrepreneurial spirit that keeps much of America successful.
Students wore business attire across the country, highlighting the professionalism and ambition that define the spirit of American enterprise. The day was embraced by hard work, innovation, and leadership-values that are inscribed in building up a successful future. The students dressed for success were called upon to ponder their personal goals and aspirations. Taken together, these two days at Palisade High School highlight awareness for important causes and drive students toward a sense of empathy and a drive to make positive changes in the world. Be it support for Alzheimer’s awareness or the entrepreneurial spirit, these observances helped students reflect on the power of innovation and compassion.
