Tick, tick, boom! It was finally time for the most packed and spirited volleyball game of the season: The 2024 Homecoming game. On September 12th, our Volleyball Bulldogs took on Montrose High School, completely sweeping the floor with the RedHawks. The Varsity game ended in only three sets, all three being strongly dominated by our Bulldogs.
“The homecoming game was one of the best games we have played so far this season. I would definitely say that our defense was highlighted as well as our effort and hustle in general,” says Senior Grace McAnany. “For me specifically, I had some blocks and kills that I am really proud of from that game. This season is a really special year because of the amount of Seniors and talent we have.” McAnany has been playing volleyball since seventh grade, and has been on the Varsity team for Palisade, as a middle, since her Sophomore year. Our girls have had an incredible season so far in their new league, being ranked twelfth in Colorado, third in the 4A division, and first in Grand Junction.
As McAnany stated, our team is largely Senior-dominated this year, with seven Senior Varsity players. With these seven older girls, they serve as role models for the rest of the team and underclassman Bulldogs, giving them someone to look up to and aspire to. The class of 2025 is extremely close, which adds to the team’s chemistry. “This kind of team culture doesn’t happen that often, and it’s something special we have this year,” according to McAnany.
The student section of this particular game is one of the most fun, loud, and exciting to be in. The chants being carried by the front two rows of Seniors, and followed by the rest of the Bulldogs, are echoed loudly throughout the gymnasium. Even our own players love the energy of our spectators, with McAnany stating, “We definitely benefited off of the energy of the student section and it made us come together and play the best we can.”
Congratulations on the win Bulldogs, and good luck throughout the rest of your season. We’ll be here cheering you on!
