It’s that time of year again where boys tennis is in full swing. As the season serves up new challenges and faces, this year’s team’s focus is on building new skills, as well as approaching challenges alongside a new head coach.
A new head coach can mean change and can also bring a different environment to the team aspect. The combined Palisade and Central team’s new Head Coach is Jordyn Morrow. Palisade Senior, Andrew Kirschenmann, is one out of four seniors on the team. “We had a really good connection with Coach Aust and with a whole new person it kind of switches up the team a little with a different vibe,” says Kirschenmann. Coach Aust had been Head Coach for the boys team before she decided to just coach girls tennis.
Other than having a new coach this season, the team is also facing a new challenge as they have very few players this year. “Last year we lost six seniors,” said Kirschenmann. “It’s kind of up in the air, but currently we have 13 players set, which only leaves us with two jv players.” This year, most of the players are from Palisade High School with a few from Central High School and one who is homeschooled. “The team isn’t looking as good skill wise. On the other hand, we are meeting everyone and we are getting to know each other. We are all chill.” With a rough start to their season, the boys are hoping to strengthen skills and most importantly, build stronger relationships with new faces and a new head coach. Goodluck Boys Tennis!
