Valentine’s Day: A Sweet Treat

It’s that time of year where every student is dressed in pink, red, and white, flowers litter the hallways, the faint smell of chocolate on everybody’s breath, and love is in the air. Here at Palisade High School, we like to ensure that every student gets to feel loved, because after all, Valentine’s day isn’t only for boyfriends and girlfriends.

Throughout the week leading up to this special day, two of our clubs were selling sweet treats that could be bought for a “crush” or a friend. FBLA, or Future Business Leaders of America were selling Orange Crush drinks, giving each student the chance to buy one for their friend, and deliver it with a note or even anonymously. This fun tradition has been continued for its third year in a row, with all profit going directly towards the funding of FBLA students on their trip to the State competition. State this year is at the Gaylord Rockies Resort & Convention Center, with 31 students qualifying.

Melissa Wright is the advisor for Palisade FBLA, and has been for the past 15 years. The fundraiser made $188, profiting $120 for the students. “It’s not a big fundraiser, we really just do it for the fun of Valentine’s day. We wanted to bring joy and love to everyone, not just love but also for your friends.” Wright says.

FCCLA is a similar club at Palisade who focuses more on the family and consumer services aspect of business. Part of this club includes culinary arts, so the students hand-drizzled chocolates and pretzels to be sold as well. The profits of this fundraiser also went to support the students with their travel expenses in the near future.

We hope you had a great Valentine’s Day Bulldogs, and thank you for supporting our clubs!
