Last Saturday, December 16th the Boys and Girls basketball teams competed in two very tough games continuing to perform with an impressive amount of effort. The boy’s team ended in an unfortunate loss of 62-81 against Silver Creek making our record 5-5. The girl’s team also ended in an unfortunate loss of 29-50 against Fruita Monument, making their record 6-3. Sophomore Hunter Howard leads the boys team in various stats, the most prominent being an average of 14.2 points per game. The boys head to Coal Ridge on Tuesday in hopes of advancing their record. As for the girls, Senior Chloe Simmons leads the team in points per game at 16.7. Sophomore, Sadie Bunker plays a pivotal role on the girl’s varsity team and shares her insight on the season so far. She states, “I think our last basketball game, we weren’t playing to the best of our ability and we are lacking the team chemistry we usually have. I think that we were a little bit nervous for the game as a whole and I don’t think that game was representative of our team.” Bunker has been playing basketball since 5th grade and has an immense passion for the game as she looks to play in college. Bunker says, “The biggest difference from last year is we are more of a team and everyone recognizes that we can be a better team and so I think we are all just working together more.” The girl’s team had a rough start to the season as five former varsity players didn’t try out this season. Although this caused some disruption within the team it didn’t stop them from staying focused and working hard. Bunker explains, “For me this season I am just really there for my teammates on and off the court and to pick them up. I also want to focus on doing my best although that might not be scoring the most points or having the most steals and just giving to the team whatever I can.” Our bulldogs are working hard to reach the obtainable goal of winning the league proving to themselves that they are capable.
