The Bulldogs bit back against the Grand Junction Tigers this past Saturday in a fired up game full of a large crowd of fans.
This past Saturday on the 13th, both our varsity girls and boys played fierce against Grand Junction’s teams. Surprisingly, the student section was still present for Grand Junction’s team, regardless of the Saturday afternoon. Many students from both schools watched their favorite ballers shoot, defend, and destroy the opposing team. Right from the start, it was clear our girls had it in the bag. Sophomore Sadie Bunker (#23) carried the game, cutting to make shots and defending like no one’s business. Other notable players included Senior Chloe Simons (#11), Junior Addie Rhitterbush (#4), and sisters Laurna (#21) and Lyla Lancaster (#22). The ending score was 45 to 32, another win for the Palisade girls varsity team. The boys team also started off very strong, showcasing their strength and motivation to not give in to the large senior boys on Grand Junction’s team. Sophomore Hunter Howard (#1) was the game’s point guard, shooting up some impressive shots and using his ball handling skills to get Palisade ahead during the half. The score at halftime was Palisade 21 and GJ 19. It seemed as though our boys had it in the bag considering the score at half, but unfortunately it didn’t end that way. Grand Junction’s massive defense stopped almost half of our shots. Junction’s Junior Will Applegate (#31) continuously stopped our shots, yet the Bulldogs didn’t give up. Notable players during this game included Freshman Carter Hayward (#3), Junior Skylar Woods (#10), Junior LJ Ballenger (#13), Junior Layne Ruppulius (#5), and Freshman Dashawn Jackson (#32). Regardless of the ending score and loss for Palisade, 41 to 54, our Bulldogs still put in their best effort against the Tigers, showing off some impressive shots and skills on the court. Congratulations to the girls team for their win and the boys team for their hard working attitude!
