Little Dawgs Fundraiser
This past weekend, the Palisade boys wrestling team hosted a tournament for wrestlers 14 and under here at PHS. Kids from all over the state came to compete and the team put on an online auction to raise money for the Caster family.
Almost 400 wrestlers came from every corner of the state to wrestle here at Palisade. The tournament was run by our wrestlers, who were super hands-on with being on the floor and keeping scores. The wrestlers’ ages started all the way at two years old! The kids were put into groups based on their age and then divided up by their weights. Even with all these divisions, there were still plenty of kids in each bracket, and all of them got to compete and have fun! I spoke to Titus Steele, a wrestler who helped out at the tournament, and said his favorite part was, “Watching the little guys wrestle, I love seeing that cultivation and love for the sport. It’s not the most popular sport but I’m glad there’s still another generation that’s gonna be going through it.”
The Wrestlers also hosted an online auction to raise money for the Caster family, who are a big part of this school and recently lost Mr. Caster to cancer. Local businesses from around the valley donated items to the wrestlers for them to put up on the website. In total, the auction raised $7,500, all going to the Casters. They also raised about $4,000 from concessions.
Overall the tournament was a huge success, the fundraising went incredibly well and young wrestlers from around the state got to have fun playing a sport they love.
Your donation will support the student journalists of Palisade High School. Your contribution will allow us to purchase equipment and cover our annual website hosting costs.
