On September 23rd, 2025 many Palisade seniors attended the college workshop hosted by a palisade counselor, Ms. Steeves, to help themselves get ready to apply to colleges. Ms. Steeves states that she “didn’t have as many students as I would have liked,” and there were, “about forty seniors,” while this day was a chance for seniors to get help, from not only Ms. Steeves but also the other counselors in the building, and they were completely excused from their classes, not many took advantage of the opportunity. “We did a block, it probably took…an hour,” states Ms. Steeves. She also goes on to explain that some seniors didn’t have the opportunity to attend as they may have been at concurrent classes at Colorado Mesa University, as most college bound Bulldogs take this chance to make their college a little less time-consuming and cheaper. Ms. Steeves states, “It’s kind of hard to get every single senior that’s college bound.” She also goes on to explain that the whole point of this day was to help students be prepared for important college application days that are approaching. “It was really just a step by step of creating a School Links account, adding application, creating a Common App account, and the goal of the day was so kids are ready and prepared for the Colorado free application days that are happening in October.” She goes on to say, “They can have parts of their application done, so in those days where the application fee is waived, they can just submit versus starting from scratch and not knowing what they’re doing.” Ms. Steeves and the rest of the counseling department did an amazing job to help seniors get set up for success. Her door is always open to questioning students and offers a helping hand with a smile.

About the Contributor
Ava Herrera, Managing Editor
Hey, I’m Ava Herrera and I am a Junior here at Palisade High School. This is my first year in Paw Post and I am currently the Managing Editor. Outside of school I enjoy shopping, reading, dirt biking and spending time with my family. I love spending time with my three little brothers and I am very devoted to them and my school work. I hope to complete and pass eight AP classes by the end of my Senior year. I also recently started getting more into car mechanics and enjoy the process of taking a car apart to fix it and put it back together (after learning about fashion, of course). I am so excited to be a part of the Staff this year! Peace out, Dogs!
