According to the Denver Post, there was a shooting at Evergreen high school in Evergreen, 30 minutes away from Denver, on Wednesday, September 10th, at 12:24 in the afternoon, with two teens critically injured. The perpetrator, a 16 year old student at the school, targeted any students he came across while aimlessly walking around the school, looking for “new targets”. After the individual could not find more students, he was found with fatal, self inflicted injuries. The individual had posted many things online, on X and TikTok, hinting at his plans before the attack, according to the Denver Post. The accused posted pictures and videos showing other mass shooters and other things they did, even recreating some of the perpetrators.
When asked about how badly the event will affect us here as Palisade, Freshman Kaleb Rial stated “I don’t think it will have much effect on us, it’s all the way back in Denver, three and a half hours away, although it was a very bad thing to happen.” Rial also stated, “I didn’t hear about it until a couple days afterward, but it was still a really bad thing to happen.” The event was scary and unpredictable, and most people in Colorado were shaken by the event. This was also the 17th school shooting in Colorado since 1999. All of this caused the state to be shaken from the incident, scared of what the incident could bring for their area. The Evergreen High School shooting was a scary event that nobody was expecting to happen, or wants to happen to their school.
