On September 11th, 2001, there was a suicide mission against the United States. 9/11 is known to be a traumatic and sad day for all, but being thankful for our dedicated service members who give up their life to protect and serve is just as important. Around 2,977 people died on this day, exactly twenty four years ago. People today still have vivid memories of the attack showing how much of an impact it has left on all ages. Macie Brown, a Sophomore here at Palisade High School says, “I was in 6th grade when 9/11 really started to have an impact on me. I suddenly realized what it was about because in school we started to learn about it. On the anniversary of 9/11 we started reading articles about it, or watching educational videos. I think it’s impacted everyone, because students learn about it every year on the day that it happened, starting at a young age.” Not only are students learning about this, this event is not forgotten, and never will be.
Alexis Lopez, a Junior at PHS, stated how learning about 9/11 has taught her a lot about how America honors victims years later. “Learning about 9/11 has taught me a lot about how our world handles things. I think it’s so sad that our first thought when it comes to conflict is to destroy a country, kill thousands of people, and just start to attack. But, it also taught me that America has a lot of pride in its country and its citizens. The fact that we still honor the victims and the heroes of that day over 20 years later, just shows how much pride and honor we have in ourselves.” With 9/11 hitting its twenty fourth year anniversary, it demonstrates how our community fosters one another, and grows as a country together.
