Heading into the sixth week of school, some have found balance as the inevitable bumps of new beginnings begin to smooth out, while others are feeling overwhelmed by the growing amount of content and new responsibilities. Nevertheless, we are approaching exciting activities, schedule changes, fresh material, and more. In this edition of Counselors Corner, Mrs. Steves, one of Palisade High School’s devoted counselors, shares her insight into upcoming events, pending changes, and goals for the new year.
Every year, seniors face a new set of deadlines and responsibilities that can feel extremely overwhelming. Steves highlights some key upcoming events, explaining, “Seniors should be aware of Colorado Free App Days, which run October 7th through the 9th. Senior Workday will be on October 7th, so all seniors can go to the library and work on college applications. There’s also a college fair in Aspen on October 5th that students can attend to connect with different universities and ask questions.” More information about these events can be found on the Senior Class of 2026 Google Classroom and on flyers in the counseling office.
Although students may face discouraging moments of stress and pressure, there are also exciting events to ease that tension, such as Homecoming Week. Steves shares, “I always look forward to Homecoming because it brings a fun morale around the school and good engagement between staff and students. It’s just a good time to connect with kids in a different way.” The Homecoming dance will take place on October 4th.
As students settle into the routine of school and begin navigating new challenges, Palisade’s staff continues to look for ways to improve their systems and serve students to the best of their abilities. Steves emphasizes, “Our goals are always to offer as many opportunities and resources to kids as possible. It’s nice to know when students leave Palisade feeling like they had an opportunity to explore different pathways, whether educational, social-emotional, or through engagement in the school community.”
With the combination of driven students and compassionate staff, the Bulldogs are striving to make this year more memorable and better than ever.
