Last Friday, Bulldogs attended a trip to Colorado Mesa University to explore the engineering program Colorado Mesa University has in partnership with Colorado University Boulder. The trip was organized by Mr. Burke, a Palisade counselor, who drove students to Colorado Mesa University and helped guide the Bulldogs through the campus. During this trip, Bulldogs toured the engineering building to see what their potential future would look like as students. Bulldogs talked with professors, students and were able to learn more about student-led clubs and projects.
Rye Gingerich, a Palisade Junior, provided us with more insight into how the field trip went. “It felt like a great community,” Gingerich stated that the students have a great support system for one another. “They knew their professors and each other more.” Gingerich also stated that the students having a closer relationship with their professors helped them gain more of a community with one another.
“It opened my eyes to the engineering program…and how it would be a lot cheaper than just doing the full program at Colorado University,” Gingerich told us that doing the engineering program through Colorado Mesa University is a lot cheaper than most schools, and it will help out a lot of students who want to go to college but may have financial problems which restricts their ability to do so. “When we talked to the college students and their experience with the program, I felt like it opened up people’s eyes a little bit more to see the process to attend.” Many more students should look into the program if they are interested in engineering and having a close knit community.
