This week’s cross-country race took place at Battle Mountain, which is a three hour drive from Palisade High School near Vail, Colorado. Seven boys ran Varsity in this race, Hank DeFord, Chase Edmonds, Reese Edmonds, Fidel Perales, Hunter Rish, Brody Robinson, and Ian Shiao. The other 11 boys ran JV, and all the girls on the team ran Varsity.
Last Year’s Battle Mountain race ended with Hank DeFord talking first place for boys varsity. Hank Deford continues his winning streak with his first place finish for his second year in a row. Overall the team did well in the race and two boys in varsity placed top 15, Chase Edmonds at 13th and Hank Deford at 1st. Our team decided to do a pre-race interview with Varsity runner and Junior of Palisade High School, Brodie Robinson. When asked how he felt about the race he stated that he was excited for the race. Robinson thinks the team will do better overall this year, declaring “There are more people, and they are definitely putting in more work and better talent.” For those who don’t know Battle Mountain, Robinson explains the terrain of the race “It starts on an open field, then you go around some areas with trees, and there’s gonna be up and down hills, probably the second most hilliest course of all of the races.”
The team placed well overall in all their heats. Although the race was difficult for the team, they pushed through it all and everyone was able to finish the three mile long, brutal course. The next meet will be this Saturday September 6th in Gypsum at 10 a.m.
