Palisade High School is hosting its very own Greek wedding in the auditorium! Mamma Mia is one of the most notorious musicals that has been on Broadway and was even adapted into a movie that has been seen by over 70 million people worldwide! The musical follows a girl named Sophie as she prepares for her wedding in Greece. Everyone is there to support her; her mother, friends, and family. The only person who is missing is the man meant to walk her down the aisle. Sophie invites three men from her mother’s past to try and find out who her father is, but we won’t know until our school is ready for the bride to walk down the aisle.
Our staff interviewed a few theatre Bulldogs about how the auditions were, and they were very excited to take part in the play coming up. First, Claire Schaffer,a sophomore, said confidently, “Everyone was so supportive… We all were cheering each other on… We would just cheer for every single person, no matter who it was. It was really really supportive.” Later on she said, “ This will be my first high school musical, and I am just so excited to be part of this environment, this family, and this group of people. It’s going to be really great.” The pure happiest on Claire’s face was so encouraging. Another student, senior Braewyn Brown says, “I think it went really well, the energy was great. Everyone did an amazing job. We were all hanging out and joking around.” Lastly, a returning theater student, senior Regyn Coolbaugh said “We had a lot of amazing talent this year. We had a lot of new people auditioning because the show is so notorious. It was a really great time just getting to meet so many new people… everybody did absolutely amazing.” Hearing about this growing happy community amongst the Palisade students has inspired so many people and helped people find their place in this school.
The students also gave great insight into the audition process. Braeywn Brown gives us the whole process, stating that in the first half, “We learn a couple of dances that will be in the show and then just kind of mess around with those and see how well we can all pick those up.” She then states the second half of the process is the vocal audition, where each auditionee sings a snippet of a song that the character they are auditioning for will sing in the play itself. The musical at Palisade this year is going to be outstanding, thanks to Mrs. M, Mr. Dodie, and especially the large number of students who showed up for auditions. The growing number in the theatre community will make sure that the musical will have more than enough hands on deck for the props, costumes, and characters. Break a leg, Bulldogs!!
