Spring break didn’t stop the shining track and field Bulldogs. On Saturday March 22nd, the Varsity track and field members competed in North Fork, with the boys team earning a second place win, and the girls picking up eighth. Palisade has been proving themselves consistently this season, with the varsity team consisting of both fourth-year seniors and eager freshmen. The throwers, jumpers, and runners all work together to dominate meets and leave a lasting legacy.
Some of the most notable Track Boy’s Bulldog scores include the 4 x 100 meter relay team earning first, Hyrum Deford earning fourth place in the 1600 meter and second place in the 3200 meter, and Christian Mullaney taking first in the long jump. Gavin Parker took fourth in shot put and discus as well. For the girl’s team, the 4 x 100 meter relay took third and the 2 x 400 meter took second. Rylin Elsrod placed third in the triple jump and Lila Huddle placed third in high jump.
The Bulldogs have been pushing each other to be better this season, according to senior runner Braeleigh Macaskill, “I think track is really cool because it is an individual sport, but we all practice together and work out together… even though we are individual, we still get to improve and work hard together as a team at practice.” Macaskill competes in the 400, 200, and 100 meter dashes. “The first meet of the season is always just good to get everyone starting again and getting in shape. But then the second meet, which we had last week, was a lot better, I think, for everyone, just because we were kind of used to it again, and we came ready to compete rather than just be there for a workout.”
Be sure to pay the Track and Field team a visit at an upcoming meet at Stocker Stadium. Go Dawgs!
