A 66-year-old woman tragically lost her life in a fatal accident involving a high school student near Central High School on March 3rd. Authorities say the student, whose identity has not been released, was driving when the collision occurred. The woman was reportedly struck while crossing the street near the high school.
The collision took place just after 8 in the morning when the 66-year-old woman was crossing the crosswalk at the intersection of Warrior Way and E 1/2 Road when she was suddenly struck by a pickup truck.
Troopers say that the driver behind the wheel was a teenage boy from Grand Junction High School. The driver was travelling North at the time when he struck the woman.
According to Mesa County Valley School District 51, classes at Central High School were canceled for the remainder of the day after the incident happened.
The State Patrol is continuing to investigate the circumstances around the incident.
