Although all of our spring athletes have been working hard for this season, we highlight on the par-tee that entails the Palisade Girls Golf team. The team has always welcomed new members to the team, but through the season turns rookies into champions. The Bulldogs, led by Palisade P.E. Teacher and collegiate golfer Coach Norell, continue to impress teams all around the Grand Valley with their turnout and dedication. Golf is a individualized sport, but that doesn’t stop the Girls from supporting each other and providing encouragement to both inexperienced and returning members. This season, the team has set their goals, and is not only excited to compete but carry a legacy along the way.
The Girl’s team this year is strongly composed of returning members, but contains freshmen and excited rookies of all grades. Junior Mallory Brownell, a third-year golfer, is ready to set an example for the underclassmen. “The Seniors my Freshman year really set the tone of how that family dynamic feels, and as upperclassmen we’ve carried that on.” Brownell’s experience on the team shows others what it takes to be a Bulldog. “My team goals are to make sure everyone’s having fun, and no ones stressing themselves out too bad… just keeping the energy and vibes light and airy.”
Coach Norell’s top goal every year is to make sure everyone has fun and wants to continue playing golf for the rest of their lives. “This group of girls is exceptionally driven, and I feel like we are going to accomplish great things.” Coach Norell’s positive outlook and worthwhile experience provides exceptional help to every girl on the team. “I just hope that the girls that played last year see growth and feel like they’ve accomplished things this year that they didn’t accomplish last year.” Coach Norell would like to see the girls this year place higher at Regionals, and to have the possibility of sending a few girls to State.
The Girl’s golf team plays their first tournament on Monday March 10th, which is hosted by the Bulldogs and is played at their home course, Chipeta. This will give each member on the team to play once in a competitive setting. Let’s give a golf clap for the Palisade Bulldogs this spring season!
