Actions speak louder than words, and a student following that moral has been recognized at Palisade High School. Palisade Paw Post is pleased to announce this week’s male Student of the Week, a hardworking, thoughtful, and strong student-athlete. Josiah Kinegak, a weightlifter and Senior Bulldog, was recommended by Mrs. Rush for Student of the Week. Kinegak is a quiet student who shines bright when it comes to good deeds.
Along with weightlifting, Kinegak participates in track and field as a thrower. He commented on his passion for weightlifting, stating, “Around in eighth grade, my uncle introduced me to strongman, which is one of the weightlifting disciplines, and I liked it, so I went into it.” Kinegak also spoke about academics, with his favorite subject being math. Kinegak also takes a P.E. class, strengthening himself during the school day as well as weightlifting in his free time.
Mrs. Rush, a social studies teacher at Palisade, recommended Kinegak for Student of the Week, even though she has not had him in a class since his sophomore year. Mrs. Rush stated that nominating Kinegak was a coordinated effort between her and Mr. Rush, who is a P.E. and Weights coach at PHS. “He always hangs out by my door at the beginning of school, so he’s always like, ‘Hey, how’s it going?’, so nice.” Mrs. Rush was quick to say that Kinegak puts in effort without being asked. “A couple times where I was moving a file cabinet, and stuff like that, and other kids just walked by… but he was all, ‘Hey, how can I help you?’”
When asked how Kinegak was a role model, Mrs. Rush said, “He is just a really nice, sweet guy, and just flies under the radar kind of kid… just always speading happiness.” Although Kinegak can be quiet, his kind spirit demonstrates a exceptional Bulldog. Although it is no longer KIC week, be sure to practice kindness everywhere at Palisade, and congratulations to Josiah Kinegak for setting that example.
