First year student Aleeyah Link was chosen for the honorable role of female student of the week. Link is a first year student in the pre diploma program. Link likes to devote her time to wrestle for Palisade High School’s girls wrestling team and likes to be physically active in her free time. When Link isn’t spending her time wrestling or working out, she is being an exceptional example of what it means to be a Bulldog to fellow and upcoming Bulldogs.
While interviewing Link, we found a shocking discovery: she stated on average she only takes fifteen minutes to study outside from school. After further investigation we found the reason she needs little to no time for studying. She shared that she uses time in her academic mentor and free periods to get work done and study for upcoming tests. She is an example of how students can use their time productively and efficiently. Link also gave advice to fellow students who struggle within certain subjects. She shared, “If you struggle within a certain subject, it’s better to ask for help than to continue struggling in that class.” This is great advice to fellow students who struggle with asking for help or are scared of asking questions.
Soon after interviewing Link, we also interviewed Ms. McFarlin. When asked why she chose Aleeya Link for student of the week she replied, “Aleeyah is a really good role model for someone who is focused, concerned about academics and has a life beyond school.” After hearing this, we were intrigued to ask what she looks for in students for student of the week. She answered, “I refer to the IB learner profiles, I look for kids who are balanced and kind. Balancing meaning they don’t focus everything on a sport or school work. I look for a well balanced kid who does a little bit of everything.” Lastly, we asked her what type of relationship she has with Link and she stated, “I think we have a good relationship, she’s always participating and giving great insight, she’s really bright and has a great sense of humor.”
We’re happy to congratulate Link for an outstanding accomplishment as student of the week! Link states she hopes to continue being an example for her fellow classmates and hopes to inspire people to pave their way into academic success. We’re excited to see what else Link will accomplish within the next years here at Palisade High School!
