To kick off Palisade High’s winter season, the school held an assembly to put everyone in a jolly mood. Not only were the 12 days of Christmas and various other events unveiled, but our school athletes got a chance to display their skills in a friendly competition.
On the sixth of December, STUCO held the annual winter assembly to announce the yearly celebrations students can participate in. Following an amazing national anthem by the choir, the winter sports and other teams walked out to the cheers of the crowd. The fun only went up from there as Winter Guard did a song to hype everyone up. Finally, they held two “Head, Shoulder, Knees, Cup” games between first the sports teams and then the grades. “The beginning was great, the games were very exciting. It was fun and the winter sports were happy to walk out, and the Winter Guard was excited to walk out with them,” says Quinn Carter, a Freshman STUCO member.
For winter events, STUCO first explained The Twelve Days of Christmas, an event spanning the last 12 days before break. During the first week, kids could build up their Christmas spirit by going to the Dogs on Ice and getting free hot chocolate and other goods. For the second week, there are spirit days where students wear various Christmas-themed clothing. This Friday is Ski Bum Day, a pajama day on Monday the 16th, white-out Tuesday, ugly sweaters on Wednesday, red vs. green for Thursday, and Christmas in Hawaii to finish off the year.
As the assembly closed, STUCO mentioned that the Jingle Bell Rock was to be replaced by Spike on the Shelf, where students get clues to try and find a cutout of Spike the dog. Carter also expressed how well the assembly went, saying he “hopes we can do something like this every year because the vibe was up and people were just so excited.” As this year ends, make sure to take these celebrations to heart and celebrate the approaching break!
