Last Saturday, November 16th, Palisades’ Speech and Debate team traveled to Eagle Valley to compete in their third tournament so far this season. Their first tournament was the Novice tournament and they competed in another tournament in Battle Mountain. Speech and Debate is like any other sport or club, the team goes up against other schools in the Valley and debates about real life things around the world.
Palisade landed 2nd place for sweepstakes right behind Delta. This is really exciting for Speech and Debate since they have some new people who are starting and experiencing all these new things for the first time.
Senior Lynessa Asplund states, “It went pretty well, our team Palisade won second for sweepstakes. So what that means is we had the most points behind Delta, you earn points by placing, going on stage, and also competing in certain events” Asplund personally competed in congressional debate, and impromptu debate for this tournament. She states, “I placed second in impromptu debate and third in Congress.”
Speech and Debate is one of the clubs that helps with critical thinking, communication, and creativity that can make a student a better person for the real world. Congratulations to Asplund for representing Palisade and her team for the tournament. Asplund states, “We have a few new members already and then we retain most of our other members too. This is the second time we’ve gotten sweepstakes out of tournaments before which has been the whole time I’ve been here. It’s good because our team is growing and we’re getting better.”
Good job Speech and Debate. Go Bulldogs!
