After winning the 2024 presidential election, Donald Trump is ready to move into office and start rolling out his plans. Trump has made many promises about what he will do and is now prepared to fulfill these promises.
Mass deportation, closing of the southern border, expansive tax cuts, and new missile defenses are just a few among many ideas Trump has that he wishes to accomplish during his four years in office. Relating to immigration, Trump has promised to round up and deport millions of undocumented immigrants, as well as closing the border to Mexico, although not specifying how. Economic-wise, he hopes to put tariffs on foreign goods from all countries, especially China, and expansive tax cuts to benefit corporations, tipped workers, seniors on Social Security, property owners in the Northeast, and many others, and trillions in cuts in government spending. He has also promised to reform the country’s health and food systems, reverse regulations aimed at addressing climate change, and build a new missile defense shield. Gun rights and transgender protections placed by President Biden are also to be challenged. Increases in American energy production have been promised, and he vowed to eliminate income taxes on tipped wages. Trump also floated ideas to position the U.S. for the future by embracing flying cars, promoting cryptocurrency, and promising to build 10 new “Freedom Cities”.
Ethan Burkes, a Senior, elaborates on these policies and how he thinks these next four years will go. Speaking on immigration and deportation, he says, “The mass deportation is a very good thing that the left kind of skews. The thing is, we have a legal way to get citizenship in the country, and the problem with the border under Biden and Harris is they … allowed way too many people in, which opens the door to terrorism and drug dealing across the country. So with the mass deportation and strengthening of the border, it’s overall better and the fact that we do have a legal way in really helps”. He also talks about the economy, saying, “I like tax cuts. I don’t like paying taxes, … [the republican party wants to] cut taxes and spend money on less quote-unquote ‘worthless stuff’”. Burkes also supports gun rights and the missile defense system, stating, “the missile defense shield is an amazing idea, especially with all the turmoil going around, especially in Ukraine and the Middle East. … I’m a firm believer of the Second Amendment, and, a higher majority of crimes are stopped with guns than started, and honestly, it’s the only effective way to defend a family or anyone”. Other than that, Burkes just stated that he thought that Trump was going in the right direction and that these next four years are going to turn out good if all goes well.
