E.coli Outbreak? McDonalds? Quarter Pounders? “What is happening right now” is most likely what other people are thinking right now. Escherichia Coli or E.coli is a type of bacteria that can usually be found in the lower intestines of warm blooded animals. The U.S had an E.coli outbreak which has infected 13 states and about 90 people who have fallen ill. This bacteria can be severe and in some cases deadly, one person in Colorado has died while others are hospitalized and have developed kidney complications. E.coli was founded in the McDonald’s Quarter Pounder Burger. The cause was the silver onions that were put into the burger. It is said that the onions were sent from Taylor Farms which is located in Salinas, California. 9th grader Janeth Soto states, “When I first heard about McDonald’s having an E.coli outbreak, I was really surprised and concerned, especially because McDonald’s has been a popular fast food place. It made me think about how important food safety is and how even big companies can have issues.” Having something so big be impacted by a simple bacteria really changes the nice perspective of how most people view things in whatever food they eat. People are more cautious on what they are eating now and to hope that doesn’t happen to them. Soto states, “From my perspective, it made me more cautious about where I eat and more aware of fast food restaurants. It also made me think about how this incident really impacted my trust in places I eat often.”
Take care everybody, and be careful with those Quarter Pounders!
