New beginnings and higher goals have arrived for the Palisade High School Equity Club. The club has been active at Palisade for several years and has had success achieving their goals in the past. This year, they are looking to do even more for equality amongst students and teachers. Equity club is not all about equality. Its goal is to ensure that everyone feels included in the school’s setting and that everyone has the same chances and opportunities no matter what circumstances. The club does this by discussing ways to stop inequality by finding places in the school where gender, race, religion and other things lack diversity. Junior Annika Fitzgerald is a member of the equity club. “Equity club is a group for conversation about school improvement socially and amplifying student voices,” said Fitzgerald. Fitzgerald further stated,“The goals for the club this year are to get feedback from a diverse range of the student body and highlight the opinions of kids at Palisade High School. The Equity club wants to grow and make student voices heard.” A very important aspect of student life is feeling included among friends and in classes. The teachers at Palisade High School always do a great job of including all the students in their classes. However, outside of class, it can be hard to feel like your voice is heard. “The people in the equity club are mainly juniors and seniors with experience at Palisade and want to make positive change. There’s spots open for anyone who wants to join!” Equity club is held in Mr. Franklin’s room, 217D on club days. Go check it out!
