As the cross-country season began to close, Palisade’s JV team ran at Long Family Memorial Park against four other high schools. In this event, only three boys and no girls from Palisade ran. This meant the team didn’t have enough players to place, so Central got first, Grand Junction second, and Caprock snatched up third. Nonetheless, Brody Robinson, a Sophomore, placed fourth with a 5K time of 18 minutes and 51.9 seconds.
On the crisp morning of Saturday the 19th, the boys lined up at the start for their final run of the season. Off they went, running into the park and around the school. Rhett Walker describes the course as “really cold, but pretty flat and paved, so it was an excellent PR course.” Over the park pavement and around the school, they ran, hoping for the best run of the season.
Finally, the end was in sight as Robinson crossed into fourth, Walker narrowly took 16th, and Ernesto Romero-Cano came in 32nd. Walker set a new personal record by over 45 seconds, ending the season with a good feeling. “It was a great way to finish off the season,” Robinson comments, “We ran hard, sucks that we didn’t have enough people to place though.” Almost every team member would consider this year one of their best, and the three freshmen now have a year under their belts. As the season finishes winding down, make sure to congratulate the team as they get ready for regionals in Arvada Colorado on Friday!
