On October 9th, there was a fire in Uintas Utah at Yellow Lake which effected the Western slope. Cache National Forest was covered in smoke and a total of 1,219 fires have burned 90,836 acres across Utah in 2024. Fire managers say the biggest concern is “the northwest corner of the fire.” The Yellow Lake Fire is by far the state’s largest fire of the year. As investigators look more into this, the case happened Wednesday night at 6pm and lasted 24 hours.
Wildfires are a huge threat. “The smoke spreaded all the way to Palisade. It affected me and others around me,” says Junior Ana Murillo. The Summit County Sheriff’s Office said Thursday morning due to erratic fire behavior, the closure of the Mirror Lake Highway (Hwy 150) from Slate Creek to the Highline Trailhead is likely and mandatory evacuations are in place south of the highway between the same points. Sheriffs and officials say crews will be working around the clock on scene until further notice. Daily updates now report there are 4 air tankers, 5 engines, 2 helicopters and 2 crews working on the raging fire.
Areas are closed due to the fire spreading all around different parts heading towards Mill Hollow on the west side. Avoid using cars and being near the fire. Campers near the fire have been evacuated. Stop wildfires!
