As the outdoor season starts to come to a finish, some sports are following right with it.
Cross country is one of the seasonal to year round sport, some people think all you need is the will to run and a granola bar in the morning but its much more then just that. Many put effort in and work their hardest to represent Palisade as part of their team. As teams prepare for a long journey, they also have to think about the course and the length of it. Fidel Perelas did an amazing job, making sure to bring others up with him as well. Fidel stated, “at the start of the race, I felt really slow and my leg was hurting but towards the end I saw some of my teammates and it gave me motivation to go harder and finish the race with a PR.” Most Cross Country athletes run about 1.5 to 6.2 miles during practice, depending on the course or the runner on average. Fidel ran 3 miles for his last race and ran a 18:45. Lifting up others or making sure your teammates are doing good is always one of the top things when doing anything. Fidel says, “The person who did the best was Hank DeFord and really pushed me to do better.” As many carry on this sport throughout their lives, it makes their health better and gives runners and others to push through it even though it may seem hard. Being a runner shows physical strength and mental strength being able to pull forward with will and persistence from the start to the very finish.
