The miraculous sounds of music could be heard throughout the town as bands all over the Grand Valley met at Stocker Stadium. These bands came together to show off their skills with three different songs with accompanying marching patterns and dances. While this may not have been a competition, it gave the students in marching band a chance to see what other bands are made of and opened up opportunities to refine their skills in front of an audience.
The Palisade Marching Band played the songs You Are My Sunshine, Gotham’s Reckoning, and Clair de Lune. Palisade High School’s trombones were prepared to do their best, the trumpets set to showcase their hard-earned skills, and the tubas ready to blow everyone away. They marched onto the field with confidence brimming and instruments gleaming.
They began with You Are My Sunshine, and their acting was impeccable. They blew the other bands away with a show that impressed the sky itself. Then they played Gotham’s Reckoning, and as Gunnar Schrader, a baritone in the band said, “We did a good job finding our positions, and blending our sound.” For their grand finale, they played Clair de Lune, finishing off with a bang and an epic choreo.
This event has immensely helped the marching band, and as Lucas Blanchard, a saxophone player, says, “This experience helped us know what the other schools did, which was helpful because it helps us compare ourselves a bit. Also, we recorded a video which we can watch back to see what we did wrong or didn’t do well.” The marching band is using this feedback and hands-on experience to prepare for the final event on October 28. In this event, they plan on becoming better at their songs by really making those accents pop out and the music blend perfectly. To bring it over the top, they are adding on the song King of Pride Rock to be the best band in the valley.
