Big rivalries in sports always make it more intense to play and enjoyable to watch. The Palisade boys soccer team played rivals Central Warriors on Thursday, September 13th. Palisade sadly lost the game 1-2 with Palisade’s goal coming from Felipe Lacerda ( Junior ). JV also lost to the Warriors 1-2. Sebastian Urdaneta, who is one of the captains of the Palisade soccer team stated: “The most memorable moment is definitely when my good friend Felipe Lacerda scored his first goal in a varsity game.” Sebastian also said: “I think as a defender my experience in this league has been tough. Along with Jack Sechrist we’ve been starting varsity defenders, and it’s been hard defending against such experienced and fast attackers.” The Palisade soccer team has struggled over the past couple years with winning games and scoring goals. With 4 games played so far this season, Palisade has looked a much stronger and more passionate team than in the past. “Our team’s chemistry is much better than it has been in the past, we’re really starting to connect much more as well as starting to have that creativity in our attacking third. The level is really high, it’s a super competitive league in which there’s a ton of great teams like Grand Junction, Rifle, and Durango.” said Sebastian Urdaneta. Spirits seem to be high throughout the Palisade soccer team. Their next game is Tuesday, September 17th against Grand Junction at Colorado Mesa University. Be sure to be there!
