Battle Mountain is infamous for its hills and high elevation, but despite these hard conditions, the Palisade cross-country team is running faster than ever.
Cross-country runners always dread Battle Mountain in Minturn CO, but this year, Palisade runners are staying strong through the ups and downs of it all. The Seniors ran fast, the Juniors ran fast, and even the Freshmen ran fast The rigorous training 5 days a week paid off as Palisade sped to victory. Hyrum (Hank) DeFord got first place and feels great about last Saturday’s (8/31) meet, “It was high elevation, so it was a lot more difficult for all of us because we’re used to, lower elevation, and the course had a lot of hills, but the team as a whole was able to push through it. We all did really well, as a team”. He congratulates everyone on being able to run through the hills and high elevation without slowing down at all. He is also very proud of his win, feeling good about finally taking first place in a meet, he says, “That was my first cross-country win. So yeah, I was really happy about that. I’m glad the work is finally showing and that I was able to get the dub”. All of the team feels great, knowing that running fast and having fun are the best parts of cross-country. This year’s Battle Mountain will be remembered by all the cross-country runners as the year they ran the hills, and it paid the bills.
