The Palisade football team along with the PHS students are very ecstatic about Friday night’s astounding game. The Bulldogs led an amazing fight to victory against the Delta Panthers. The Panthers led an undefeated season last year and took the 2A State Title. Last year, the Palisade football team had an ending record of 3-7. The players are hoping for a better season and are off to a wonderful start.
In the game last Friday, the Bulldogs made an amazing comeback. In the fourth quarter the score was 23-27 and the Panthers were winning. The game had less than a minute left, and the Bulldogs were pretty far from the endzone. Branson Springer made an unbelievable throw to Carter Hayward making the score 30-27. Sophomore Carter Hayward mentions, “Our team’s biggest strengths were that we were doing very well defensively, and being able to move the ball in the fourth quarter.” Hayward has been playing football since the sixth grade, and now plays running back and corner. This will be Junior Branson Springer’s third year playing for the Bulldog football team. Springer is the quarterback for the Varsity football team, and has been improving with each season. Springer has been playing since he was 5 years old. Springer says, “Our offensive line did very well, and our players’ blocks were pretty good. We also put in a lot of effort and played very hard.” Springer also mentions, “The highlight of the game would have to be the punt block by Keden Everett. That got us a boost that we needed to win the game.” This year the football team has also been brought a new football coach. Tucker says, “I graduated from Palisade and me and my wife decided that Palisade was the place to start our careers”. This is Cameron Tucker’s first year coaching for Palisade and his fourth year coaching overall. Tucker also mentions, “ I noticed a lot of talent, young talent.” Coach Tucker says, “Friday night’s game was probably one of the craziest high school football games I have ever experienced”.
The players know that they played well, but are going to be working hard so that they will see more wins like they did this Friday night. Good job Bulldogs!
