Once school gets out on Friday, the weekend buzz immediately hits. Kids are busy working, others are hanging out with friends, or some may be even playing video games. While students were having free time off this weekend, National Honors Society (NHS) kids were busy helping prepare dinner for families at Homeward Bound.
National Honors Society is a national organization that strives to help the community by volunteering in numerous activities. High school students are accepted to the group by maintaining good grades throughout the year. On Sunday the 25th, one of these activities they participated in was helping feed the homeless. NHS students could volunteer shifts from 2 in the afternoon all the way until 6 at night. The first shift was preparing the food, the second was serving the food, and the last was cleaning up the kitchen. The group prepared a tasty meal of nachos with meat and cheese, vegetables on the side, and a cookie. Upon opening the cafeteria doors, immediately hungry citizens came through the doors. In the end, they gave Palisade NHS students a big thank you, appreciating their kind hearts and efforts to help feed the hungry. “It’s a great opportunity to help others,” says junior Sedona Zoobi, “I also enjoy helping others alongside my friends.” The organization will continue their services the rest of the year, thank you NHS!
