As the spring season approaches, the girls’ tennis team is getting ready to spring forth into a new season. With a lot of success from last year, the girls are looking forward to a great season this year, as well as with the help of new players.
Palisade tennis players play on a combined team with Central High School, known as the WarDogs. Last season, the team ended with an overall record of 9-3 after having beaten Fruita Monument High School twice and Grand Junction High School once, which are some of their toughest rivalries. They had also sent two lines to the state tournament. After having lost three seniors last year, the girls are looking forward to a strong team this season. “I have high hopes for this season,” said Palisade Junior, Annabelle Carter. Annabelle has been playing for the WarDogs since her freshman year. “I am just so excited for this season.” Carter is looking forward to all of the new girls that are coming out to play. “There are so many girls,” said Carter. “My freshman year there were only like five girls on jv, but now there are going to be about 15.” Palisade Freshman, Alexis Lopez, is excited to play in the team this year. “I just want to experience having a team and playing something that is different,” said Lopez. “I want to know what I am doing and I want to be close as a team.” These girls are looking forward to an awesome season this year and are excited to grow even more as a team.
