Many events took place this past weekend making for a very exciting Sunday including the thrilling Super Bowl Championship win of the Kansas City Chiefs, the beloved halftime show, and the highly anticipated ads. Over 160,000 people registered to vote in the 36th USA TODAY Ad Meter competition, which ranks the Super Bowl commercials each year. This year’s top five were ads from State Farm, Dunkin’, Kia, Uber Eats and the NFL. Maya McCall, a sophomore at Palisade High School watched the big game Sunday night with her family. McCall exclaims, “I thought the ads were very fun to watch but I was wondering what was up with all the Temu commercials. There were so many of them it was kind of weird. I really liked the Nerds Gummy Clusters commercial because I thought it was really cute and funny and now I want a pet Nerd!” Around 70 ads were shown during the Super Bowl and were strategically placed to capture the attention of the approximately 200 million viewers. These ads did not disappoint this year, however, there were many mixed opinions on the halftime show.
The Super Bowl halftime show is usually one of the most-watched performances of the year. Award-winning artist Usher performed during halftime which featured special guests such as Alicia Keys, H.E.R, Lil John, Jermaine Dupri, and Ludacris. These artists were all in the genre of hip hop and R&B in which they performed their music while on roller skates. Many fans were upset that Justin Beiber wasn’t a special guest as Usher has been one of his lifeline mentors. McCall says, “I was a little bit disappointed with the halftime show. I’m not that familiar with Usher’s music but I feel like he could have played more of his more well-known songs. Alicia Keys did well and the choreography was pretty cool.” Going into overtime caused viewers to be on the edge of their seats ending in a final close score of 25-22. Multiple famous faces attended the Super Bowl such as the Kardashians, Taylor Swift, Brock Purdy look alike Anna Frey, Ice Spice, Lana del Ray, and Lady Gaga. In conclusion, Super Bowl 58, was a memorable game that reached successful reactions in both ads and the halftime show.
