The Grand Junction girls’ swim team has had a phenomenal season, in part because of the incredible representatives of Palisade High School on the team. State competition is just around the corner and so far we’ve had four Palisade girls qualify, Abby Price, Elli Dorr, Emily Hardin, and Sam Alexander.
The Tigers team lost some great Seniors last year and the girls had some big shoes to fill, but so far it seems like they’ve been able to do just that. Grand Junction currently sits in 9th place in all of 4A across the state, an incredible accomplishment that sets them apart from all their local competition. They’ve had a jam-packed past two weeks with meets in Glenwood, Montrose, and CMU, and now they’re preparing for Fruita’s home meet at CMU this Friday and conference championships the following week. As of now, they have six swimmers qualified for states, four of which being Palisade students, a huge accomplishment for all six swimmers, but the team is looking to get more qualified with this week’s meet. Those who qualified will hit the road on February 18th, to head to the state competition in Thornton Colorado, hoping to bring some Grand Valley representation to the front slope.
We got the opportunity to talk to Senior Abby Price earlier this season, who told us, “I’m excited about the progress we’ve made this far and just to see what we’ll be able to do in the next few meets.” Abby has swam with the Tigers team all four years of High School, so we wish her the absolute best at states in hopes she leaves this fantastic sport behind on a terrific note!
