The Famous buffet chain Golden Corral closed recently and abruptly on the 21st of January.
The buffet was around for many years located at 1100 Independence Ave right in front of Sam’s Club. It has been a staple of many families for years and its closing was a shock not only for attendees but for the employees as well.
While guests were enjoying their meals many of them could sense something was off. When they asked about what was going on there, waiters informed them that the golden coral would close by the end of the day. In the background, there could be seen many of the chiefs hugging and exchanging their ideas as to what just happened.
The reason for its closure is mainly in part due to the high cost of renovating the building and also because the lease for the building was going to go for sale. In order to re-up the lease the owners would need to pay over half a million dollars in renovation.
We wanted to know the Palisade students’ thoughts on the golden corrals closure so we asked Zeike Collins, a junior at Palisade. “It was a little bit shocking and out of the blue” he also expressed his thoughts on the layoff of workers the same day “I wish they let the employees know before shutting down the place it was unfortunate”
However, it did not take long for us to know the plans of the property as it was announced that the owners of the international buffet (located at 2504 US-6 UNIT 500) had bought the property. When one of the owners Min Lee was asked what would happen to it he said that there would be a new restaurant and hinted that it might be a Korean restaurant.
We hope that the employees may find a job and get back to their steady lives but are also looking forward to what’s to come.
