‘Now and Then’ has been a struggle to restore. McCartney, Harrison, and Starr attempted to compose a new version of the single, extracting an old demo of Lennon’s. George Harrison produced a guitar track for the reinvention. The trio ran out of steam and decided to retire the idea.
22 years later, the duo revisited ‘Now and Then’. However, Lennon’s original recording had its problems. Consistent hissing and TV noise made the recording difficult to dissect. So, AI came into play. Lennon’s vocals and piano were separated from the obnoxious background sounds. AI didn’t actually do the music, that would be scary. What would even be the point of musicians then?
