Over the weekend, on Saturday the 23rd, Palisade’s volleyball team journeyed to Steamboat. Our bulldogs showed up and showed out! C team, JV, and Varsity swept, contributing to their insane winning streak.
Katalyne Hean is a sophomore and JV player. Hean has been playing volleyball for 4 years and has been on the club teams of United and Mesa Juniors. Each game was particularly long. Hean explains, “I played on JV as a defensive specialist. The first set ended up going to 31 points, but the game usually goes to 25. We pushed through and won. In the second set, we won 17-25. It was a really fun game!” This determination and behavior are exactly what symbolizes bulldog strength. “C team did a really good job. JV did a good job keeping our energy up since it was basically playing a set and a half. Ending the game in two sets instead of three was really beneficial for us,” said Hean. With so much selection and variety, each player can showcase their talents and skills. As for Hean, her “proudest moment in the game was getting a back row attack. It’s hard to get kills and offensive swings, especially as someone playing a defensive position. That is very rare so I was really happy!” To celebrate their victories, the volleyball team indulged in ‘Sweep Treats’, “special goods that someone brings to celebrate,” describes Hean.
Jam the Gym is a special event during Homecoming Week to share these volleyball talents with Palisade students who may not have gotten the opportunity to attend a game yet. All three teams are going against Battle Mountain this Thursday. Come support us and wear neon! Go Dogs!
