Palisade Sophomore, Mercedes Cordova, is the Female Athlete of the Week brought to you by Palisade Dino Mart. Cordova does cheer for Palisade High School, and her stunting positions are flyer, backspot, main base, and side base. Cordova has been doing cheer for seven years now and has been enjoying every part of it.
Cordova was first inspired by her mother to do cheer. The encouragement that Cordova has received from her mother has helped her become a better cheerleader. Cordova continues to grow with her mother alongside her to support her. Cordova has brought many qualities and mentions, “I bring commitment and dedication to the team.” Cordova has showcased her skills towards coaches and fellow cheerleaders, and is a strong pillar for the cheer team. “My biggest inspiration are my parents for always supporting me through cheerleading”.
Head cheerleading coach, Jennie Stout, states,“She is a very strong and consistent athlete. She has a natural athletic ability as well as a team first attitude. She puts her teammates and family first in all her decisions. She carries herself with humility and grace. I am honored to be her coach.” Coaches and cheerleaders of the Palisade High School cheer team can vouch for the amazing skills and friendship that Cordova brings to the cheerleading team. Cordova states, “My favorite thing about cheer is the friendships you create.” Friendships are a very important part of the cheer team and is something that Cordova truly values with the girls closest to her on the team. Cordova mentions that she would absolutely continue her cheerleading career after high school, either competitively or in college.
Cordova’s passion and commitment for cheerleading is truly inspiring, and is something that everyone will remember. Cordova’s determination and impact on the cheer team is what makes her the great athlete that she is today. Congratulations, Merceda Cordova, for receiving Athlete of the Week!
