Palisade Junior, Hunter Howard, is the Male Athlete of the Week brought to you by Palisade Dino Mart. Howard plays basketball in the winter and baseball in the spring, where he currently plays shortstop, point guard, and forward. Howard has been around the sport of basketball for a duration of 12 years now. “I have been playing basketball since 2nd grade,” stated Howard. “I have always watched it on T.V and played on my mini hoop.” In the course of time, Howard has truly come to love the sport of basketball and the adrenaline rush that comes with it, as well as the camaraderie. “My favorite thing about basketball are the buzzer beaters and competing together.”
The Palisade Boys Basketball team played in the Warrior Challenge Tournament from December 5th through the 7th, where Howard was named the All-Tournament Team. At the Warrior Challenge, Howard averaged 12 points per game, 9.3 rebounds per game, and five assists per game. In a double overtime loss against Monarch, Howard had 17 points, 12 rebounds and 5 assists. Over the course of his basketball career, Howard has learned and achieved numerous high standards. Howard has his own biggest achievement, and that is being a three year starting player for basketball during his high school career. With the encouragement from his family and friends, Howard is motivated to further succeed and grow in what he loves. “My biggest inspiration is my little brother,” stated Howard. “He inspires me because of his strength and ability to conquer his challenges.” Howard’s brother encourages his enjoyment of basketball, the challenge of competition and reaching new personal levels and skill improvement.
With the experience and support from his family, Howard can effectively demonstrate and contribute great success to his team. “I bring experience, leadership, reliability, and high expectations,” said Howard. The leadership and sportsmanship that Howard represents proves his dedication and commitment to the sport and his teammates.
