Palisade Freshman, Carter Hayward, is the male Athlete of the Week brought to you by Palisade Dino Mart. Hayward plays both football and basketball at Palisade High School. In basketball he plays guard. Hayward has been drawn to basketball from a young age. “Most of my background comes from my dad,” said Hayward. “Before my dad came to Palisade High School he coached at Fruita. I was introduced to basketball as a young kid and was around it a lot. I just kind of fell in love with it.” Over the years, Hayward has developed a real love for the sport. “My favorite thing about basketball is growing, not only as a basketball player but as a person, as well as being able to set goals for yourself and reach them.”
Hayward plays a huge role on the basketball team as a starter on varsity and just as a leader in general. “As an individual, I try to grow more as a vocal leader and I try to positively impact the team,” said Hayward. The aspiration to put forth his best in basketball has been inspired by many people. “Inside of basketball my biggest inspiration is Kobe Bryant or Keven Durant,” said Hayward. “I love their game and I like to model it.” Other than famous role models, family is also a big part of Hayward’s life. “My biggest inspiration outside of sports is my dad. I am around him a lot and seeing how hard he works inspires me to also work hard.” The support Hayward has received from friends and family has helped him to achieve so much. “My biggest accomplishment this year is receiving first team all conference.” Congratulations on Athlete of the Week Carter!
